Gum Builder™ for Gum Recession in Palo Alto
A Non-Surgical Solution for Receding Gums
Gum recession and tooth sensitivity are two of the most common periodontal problems for adults in the United States. Almost 50% of individuals under age 65 have some degree of gum recession, with 85% of adults over 65 experiencing it. Treating gum recession often required surgery to reposition the gums, relieving sensitivity and protecting the teeth from getting lose and falling out.
Although, Gum Grafting is still needed in many cases, with gum builder, Dr Hakim can treat some of the cases when there is mild to moderate recession to prevent future need for gum surgery.
What is Gum Builder™?
Gum Builder uses very small injections of calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA), a biocompatible filler, in to the gum to treat mild to moderate receding gums and to reduce tooth sensitivity. It stimulates your body’s natural production of collagen and elastin, helping to rebuild healthy gum tissue. The procedure takes just 15-30 minutes in our office and requires no downtime. Depending on the response of your gum and the amount of collagen produces by your body, we may recommend up to three sessions, scheduled at 6 to 8 weeks intervals.
Following the procedure, you may experience some mild discomfort, and your gums may feel slightly swollen or puffy. This usually resolves quickly. Tylenol or ibuprofen can be taken if needed.
